Research Officer

Purpose of the Role

The Research Officer will lead the development, analysis, and dissemination of data and insights related to the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry in Africa. The role aims to position Africa MICE Hub as a leading knowledge authority through high-quality research outputs.

Key Responsibilities

A

Research & Data Collection

  • Conduct primary and secondary research on the MICE industry
  • Gather data from industry stakeholders, reports, and global sources
  • Maintain a structured and up-to-date research database

Industry Reports & Briefs

  • Develop industry briefs, reports, and publications
  • Translate complex data into clear, actionable insights
  • Ensure timely dissemination of research outputs

Market Intelligence & Trends Analysis

  • Monitor global and regional MICE trends
  • Identify opportunities, challenges, and emerging markets
  • Provide strategic insights to inform decision-making

Knowledge Management

  • Maintain research systems and documentation
  • Support development of knowledge products (white papers, articles, insights)
  • Ensure accuracy, credibility, and consistency of data

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with industry partners, institutions, and experts
  • Support surveys, interviews, and data collection initiatives
  • Represent Africa MICE Hub in research-related engagements where required

Deliverables & KPIs (Weekly)

Minimum 1 industry brief or insight piece per week
Collection and documentation of relevant industry data weekly
Weekly trend analysis summary
Timely update of research databases
Contribution to at least 1 major report/publication (Bi-weekly)
Accuracy and reliability of data (zero tolerance for misinformation)
Weekly research progress report submission

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Research, Statistics, Tourism, Business, or related field
  • Minimum 2–4 years' experience in research, data analysis, or policy work
  • Strong analytical and report-writing skills
  • Proficiency in research tools and data analysis software (Excel, SPSS, or similar)
  • Knowledge of MICE, tourism, or business events industry is an added advantage
